
Tasks for Student Pilot Rating
To achieve Student Pilot Rating the ab-initio entrant must complete Student Training Card and achieve pass standard in the following tasks:
- Correctly carry out pre and post flight routine
- Safely carry out launch assistant duties for other pilots
- Carry out preflight checks
- Complete four appropriate controlled landings in a designated area
- Demonstrate safe airspeed control
- Complete left and right turns
- Describe and evaluate a site and give a flight plan appropriate for the conditions
- Pass the Student Pilot written examination
- Satisfy instructor as to attitude and airmanship
- a) TOW LAUNCH: complete a minimum of 10 flights and attain self release from at least 100 m AGL
- b) SELF LAUNCH: complete a minimum of six low flights with a further six to at least 30 m AGL
Tasks for Club Pilot Rating
To achieve Club Pilot Rating, the Student Pilot must achieve pass standard in the following tasks:
- a) TOW LAUNCH: complete a minimum of 15 flights since attaining Student Pilot Rating, all self release from at least 500 ft
- b) SELF LAUNCH: complete a minimum 20 flights since attaining Student Pilot Rating, to at least 200 ft, with two flights with at least five minutes duration above take-off flight
- Experience take-offs in wind speeds not exceeding 5 mph and in wind speeds between 10 and 15 mph
- Execute stable 180 turns
- Complete five appropriate landings in a designated area, not to exceed 20 metres radius
- Maintain the standards of the Student Pilot Rating
- Pass the Club Pilot written examination
- Complete the appropriate log book entries
- Join the BAPC Club
- Satisfy instructor as to attitude and airmanship
- a) TOW LAUNCH round canopy: location as decided by instructor
- b) TOW LAUNCH wing canopy: location not further than 50 metres from launch point
- c) SELF LAUNCH: location as decided by instructor but for two flights the designated area must be a top landing

Tasks for Pilot Rating
To achieve Pilot Rating, the candidate must have held Club Pilot rating for at least four months and must achieve pass standard in the following tasks:
- a) TOW LAUNCH: complete a minimum of 50 flights since attaining Club Pilot Rating, with at least 30 flights to above 800 ft and 15 flights in wind speeds of over 10 mph
- b) SELF LAUNCH: complete a minimum of 50 flights since attaining Club Pilot Rating, with at least 15 flights to a height above take off, at least 15 flights in wind speeds over 15 mph and at least 5 flights in thermic conditions
- Complete full dynamic stall with stall recovery, spins and spiral dives
- Carry out controlled 360 degree turns in both directions
- 4. Complete at least five flights of over five minutes:
- a) TOW LAUNCH: from a line not exceeding 600 metres or the equivalent winch tow height
- b) SELF LAUNCH: at least five minutes to be above take off height
- Fly with regard to the Rules of the Air and Air Traffic Rules
- Carry out five controlled landings in a designated area, not to exceed 10 metres radius
- Experience flying in four different wind directions and at two sites
- Pass the pilot written examination
- Satisfy instructor as to attitude and airmanship
SELF LAUNCH: complete a minimum of 15 hours flying since attaining Club Pilot Rating
SELF LAUNCH: carry out two top landings at each of two sites

Tasks for Advanced Pilot Rating
To achieve Advanced Pilot Rating, the candidate must have held Pilot Rating for at least four months and achieve pass standard in the following tasks:
- Complete a minimum of 150 flights since the completion of Pilot rating
- Complete at least 35 hours flying time since completion of Pilot Rating
- Complete FAI Bronze Eagle Badge (15 km distance, 500 m height gain or one hour duration)
- Complete 20 km cross country flight
- Complete 20 km out and return flight
- Pass Advanced Pilot written examination
- Satisfy instructor as to attitude and airmanship
